“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
Recently Councilman Ruben Wills mailed a sympathy flyer entitled “Set the Record Straight” to his constituents. Mr. Wills stated in the article that he made mistakes and is asking for the communities’ forgiveness. Mr. Wills even added a wonderful quote from Martian Luther King that defines Mr. Wills struggle in dealing with the many criminal investigations against him. I believe there is redemption for everyone, even Mr. Wills. I also believe that every man should be held accountable for his actions.
It is public knowledge that there are numerous ongoing criminal investigations involving Mr. Wills. The most recent is the “Young Leaders Institute” case that was controlled by now convicted criminal Van Holmes. Van Holmes, president of the Young Leaders Institute in Rochdale Village, was arrested and convicted of embezzling over $88,000 in funding that should have been utilized for his program in Jamaica, Queens. Mr. Wills is now being accused of allocating Mr. Holmes funding with prior knowledge of possible misappropriation.
It is also alleged that Van Holmes had direct ties to the Rochdale Village Community Center where he ran his fraudulent program for several months with the blessing of Ruben Wills, several Rochdale Board Member’s and Rochdale Village Management. During this period of time, Van Holmes collected thousands of dollars from Rochdale Village families whose children participated in the Young Leaders Institute. To date tens of thousands of dollars have not been returned to Rochdale families after the arrest and conviction of Van Holmes.
Mr. Wills has accused his opponents of negative campaigning.” Mr. Eugen Evans in response states, “How can Ruben consider it negative that the community review his policies before making an informed decision concerning their vote. This community is going through pure hell and I’m more concerned about the families he misrepresented while in office than his emotional feelings. He has totally misrepresented this entire community from day one.”
Mr. Evans, democratic candidate for District 28 seat also says, “Mr. Wills has misrepresented the mothers and fathers whose children have been murdered in our community, He misrepresented the young men and woman who are unemployed. He misrepresented the Senior Citizens who are struggling and receiving no help in our community. He misrepresented the children whose daycares are shut down. He misrepresented all the young high school students who have lost inspiration to continue their education due to school closures. He misrepresented the Churches by not funding their most vulnerable outreach programs. He misrepresented the sick who have no alternative other than go to crowded emergency rooms and receive substandard care. That’s his record, plain and simple. Ruben only cares about his state check, the community comes last.”
Rochdale advocate clearly supports a change in district 28 representation. There are several candidates who are now running for the seat. We honestly feel it’s in the best interest of our community to elect Eugen Nu Nu Evans to replace Ruben Wills
Mr. Wills never had a commitment to Rochdale and it shows. He has not funded a single program in our community. Ruben is a politician, he learned from Shirley Huntley, Malcom Smith, and others on how to get money. At the end of the day he will also learn YOU ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS.
